The way of the Buddha is a living response to a living question. Yet whenever it has become institutionalized its vital response has become a well-formulated answer. The seemingly important task of preserving a particular set of answers often causes the very questions which gave rise to those answers to be forgotten. Then the lucid answers Buddhism provides are cut off from the stammering voice that asks the questions. —Stephen Batchelor, The Faith to Doubt: Glimpses of Buddhist Uncertainty
This retreat is designed for experienced meditators who wish to deepen their practice with the daily support and guidance of a teacher. It continues the Trackless Path that Ken held last summer. In that retreat many students reported a deepening of their practice in ways they never considered possible. This retreat provides a rare opportunity to work the "edges" of your practice in your own way. You identify your focus and direction and then practice in a contained and well supported space making use of daily consultations with Ken. The schedule allows time for movement work, walking meditation and other forms of practice. Evenings are spent in group dialogue with the teacher.
The retreat will be located at Mandala Retreat Center in Northeast New Mexico. This is a beautiful remote location that provides 360 degree views with comfortable living quarters. The colorful skies and frequent thunderstorms enhance the practice environment. If you would like information and pictures of the center go to www.mandalacenter.org
Who Should Apply Due to the self-directed nature of this retreat you need to have at least 5 years of practice experience, take into consideration the remote location of the retreat, and be able to attend the full ten days. Applications will be reviewed and you will receive notification of your status by April 1st.
Transportation A shuttle bus/van will be available to and from Colorado Springs Airport at an additional cost to be determined.
Costs The cost for the retreat is $1750, which covers a double room, meals and all instruction and guidance. No additional offerings are expected or required. Because of the high credit card processing fees on large sums, we offer a $50 discount if you pay by a cheque (drawn on a US bank) or by money order.
The application fee of $250 will go toward the retreat fee if you are accepted into the retreat, or will be refunded if you are not accepted. It will not be refunded if you change your mind about coming to the retreat. You can pay this initial application fee by Paypal or by cheque/money order, without affecting your eligibility for the discount.
Full payment is due by May 1st. No refunds after July 1st.
Mind itself is utterly without root, like space.
Just as space does not refer to the nature of space,
Nor can awareness be pointed out by illustrations. —Jigme Lingpa
