A core element of Buddhist practice in every tradition is the interaction between practitioner and teacher, in which questions about the practice, teaching, or how to find one's way in life are explored. In this interaction, the two minds meet, and something happens that cannot be put into words. All the Buddhist sutras are set up this way — in modern vocabulary, Q&A sessions, though the answer usually takes the form of an experience or understanding rather than straight information.
Once or twice a month, Ken comes to Against the Stream to lead meditation and answer questions. These sessions are called Sutra Sessions. Their aim is to continue this ancient and time-tested tradition in which practitioners deepen their understanding and ability to resolve important questions in their lives.
About the Teacher
Ken McLeod —
One of the senior Western teachers of Buddhism today, Ken McLeod is also one of the most innovative. Known for his ability to explain difficult and subtle teachings, "he distills the nature and purpose of Buddhism to make it accessible for any newcomer without dumbing it down." (Phil Catalfo, Yoga Journal, July 2001). To find out more about Ken, click here.
