Program Content
Each training session covers:
- a specific section of Wake Up to Your Life,
- instruction in the personal practice and energy work needed to teach that section,
- different teaching methods, and
- one or more topics on admininstration or other practical matters
Wake Up to Your Life
For each training session, participants put together a syllabus and teaching manual for the designated section. Each section covers:
- An outline of the content
- Conceptual component
- Meditation component
- Transmission of material
- Application in daily life
- Progression of experience and understanding
- Signs of understanding
- Common problem areas and how to handle them
- Additional resources
- Creative ideas for communicating the content experientially and conceptually
Personal Practice and Energy Work
- Methods for generating energy for personal practice and transmission
- Meditation practices (including vajrayana methods if needed) to be able to transmit each section of WUTYL (or comparable material)
- How to work with energy in interviews, groups, and retreats
Teaching Skills
- Student interviews
- Talks
- Presenting programs (classes, groups, one-day workshops, retreats)
- Understanding the teacher role
- Range of ways of being a teacher
- Different approaches and styles of teaching methods
- Responsibilities of teacher and student
- Maintaining well-being and balance in the teaching role
- How to define and develop your own teaching practice
Administrative and other Practical Matters
- Finding students
- Financial models
- Aligning financial and teaching models
- Legal structures
- Institutions and formal systems
- Community development
- Advantages and disadvantages of institutional and non-institutional approaches
